About Home Cafe Lab

Hi — I'm Dennis. Home Cafe Lab started the morning I paid $7 for a cold foam cold brew, tried to make it at home, and watched my foam sink in four seconds. This site is everything I've figured out since: how to make cafe-quality drinks at home without a $700 espresso machine or a barista course.
How I test
Before a recipe goes live, I make it the way you would: a handheld frother, a mason jar, everyday milk, store-bought matcha, and simple syrups. I measure the ratios, time the froth, and taste against the cafe original when there is one. If a drink only works with specialty gear, I say so — or I find a version that works without it. And when a ratio fails in testing, the failure goes in the notes, not the trash.

Why ratios matter
The difference between a flat, sinking cold foam and a thick, cafe-style one is almost always the ratio. That is why every recipe pairs with a free calculator or converter that scales the amounts to your exact cup size. Get the ratio right once and you can repeat it forever.
Our promise
- Recipes we have actually made, not AI-guessed or scraped.
- Honest gear picks — we only recommend what we would buy again.
- Clear measurements in both US and metric units.
- No fluff before the answer. The ratio comes first, every time.
Have a request or a drink you want reverse-engineered? Tell me on the contact page — reader requests are where half the copycat recipes on this site came from. And if a recipe didn't work for you, I want to know that even more: I retest when readers hit problems.
