Matcha Ratio Calculator
| Ingredient | Amount |
|---|---|
| Matcha powder | 1.5 tsp (3 g) |
| Hot / warm water (to whisk) | 2 fl oz |
| Milk (or milk alternative) | 10 fl oz |
| Suggested sweetener (honey / syrup) | 1.5 tsp |
- 1. Sift matcha into a bowl or cup.
- 2. Add 2 fl oz warm water (~175°F / 80°C) and whisk in a W-motion until smooth.
- 3. Pour over ice, add your milk, and sweeten to taste.
1 tsp matcha ≈ 2 g. Standard ratio is 1 tsp per 8 oz of drink.
How the matcha ratio works
A standard iced matcha latte uses 1 teaspoon of matcha powder per 8 oz of drink. That baseline scales cleanly: a 12 oz drink gets 1.5 tsp, and a 16 oz gets 2 tsp. Light strength uses 75% of the standard amount for a milder, less grassy flavor; strong strength uses 150% for a more pronounced matcha character. Always whisk the powder with a small amount of warm water first — this creates a smooth paste that dissolves fully without lumps.
The 2 fl oz of whisk water stays constant regardless of drink size because the whisking step is about activating the powder, not adding volume. The remaining liquid is all milk, giving you the right creamy balance. For sweetener, start with 1 tsp of honey or simple syrup per 8 oz and adjust from there.
